In this work I explore a form that can be interacted with, using the idea of a tree branch or a hand as inspiration. The object takes up space and has multiple interactions with the right-angled walls even as it itself contains no right angles at all. In making this piece I continued to explore the idea of movement expressed in the process of creation as well as in the finished work. Creating Reaching for a Branch was a physical challenge involving my whole body. Bending the thick wire required the use of all my limbs, and welding it together involved accommodating my body to its form in order to secure and reach the spots I needed to weld. It is large enough to crawl underneath or step over. My next work would be a larger and sturdier iteration that could support weight.
